Boot Camp for New Dads

About 40% of American children live in homes without their natural fathers.  Research from the National Fatherhood Initiative finds that children who grow up without their fathers are much more likely to exhibit emotional or behavioral problems.

Core Health Program

The Core Health Program in Grand Rapids, Michigan, assists underserved and uninsured patients for a 12-month period to better equip them to deal with the disease on their own. Core Health participants achieve better health through education on disease prevention, control and self-management; improved nutrition; increased physical activity; reduced tobacco use; weight reduction; and the effective, efficient use of health care services.

Developmental Screening & Enhancement Program

New research shows that having to remove a child from an abusive home is not only disruptive, but it also can have a marked effect on the child's social and intellectual development.

The 2012 Child Well-Being report found that a year-and-a-half after a child abuse or neglect case is closed, the children affected performed below the average for kids their same age on social-emotional, cognitive, language, daily living skills, behavioral and social skill-based domains.

FirstReach

Healthcare workers in Montgomery County, North Carolina, in the south-central part of the state, knew the population they served - in a largely rural, poor area - had more health problems than other North Carolinians, and other Americans.  Not only is poverty an issue in the area, but the access to healthcare also is difficult.  Still, healthcare providers were shocked at the results of a 2007 health assessment.  The prevalence of diabetes among Montgomery County adults was almost double the state average, and diabetes mortality rates were extremely high.

Serial Inebriate Program

The Serial Inebriate Program (SIP) focuses on chronic substance abusers found intoxicated throughout the city of Sacramento.  The program is a partnership between Sutter Medical Center, the City of Sacramento, Sacramento County, the District Attorney's office, the Sacramento Police Department, Volunteers of America, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership and Sacramento Self Help Housing.
